Opportunity: Short Cycling is a condition where compressors of AC cycle between on and off states with high frequency, which is not how the equipment is designed to operate, leading to shorter equipment life and higher bills. This problem is not easy to identify during maintenance checks, as it is usually result of events outside the equipment.
Solution: Facillizence – Building Asset Management system by analysing the trends was able to identify the issue and alert the corresponding operators for investigation. It was found out that due to faulty placement of sensor, the compressor got turned off before intended cooling of space, and then quickly turned on as the room temperature came back higher than expected within short time gap.
Results: The placement of sensor was changed to accurately reflect the room temperature, thus reducing compressor on-off cycles. Equipment asset life will increase by ensuring equipment operation was within manufacturer guidelines.
